One of the darkest memories written to the history of Azerbaijan is Khodjaly Massacre, committed on 26th February 1992, by Armenian armed forces. The genocide was another ring in the chain of the first Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Dating back to 1988, Armenians living in the territory of Karabakh, claimed Karabakh to be transmitted from Soviet Azerbaijan to Soviet Armenia, which had historically always been the territory of Azerbaijan. As a result of it there was a large number of displacement of people.
Armenian attacks started in the form of clashes and feuds later growing to a bigger ethnic cleansing, and Khodjaly became the outset of it. Since October 1991 Khodjaly had been shelled and blockaded by Armenians, compelling civilians to shelter in the basements of their houses. On the night of 26 February 1992, they entered the town with arms and weapons expelling civilians from their lands and homes. The people were chased to a forest some without proper outwear and footwear, then besieged and attacked by Armenian armed forces. That night there had been 613 civilians, including 106 women and 63 children brutally killed. Eventually, Armenian forces invaded Khadjaly.
This tragedy is recognized to be the cruelest and biggest event in the first Nagorno-Karabakh war.
Both witnesses and survivors of the Khodjaly Massacre had passed their stories to various mass media means. Later, photojournalists and men of the pen of international mass described and introduced the world the photos taken in the area, the corpse of a toddler, pregnant women, the elderly, and remnants of some people.
The conflict continued until April 13, 1994, as a result of which Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. Azerbaijan became the country with a million forcibly displaced people, who lost their families, homes and had been psychologically oppressed due to war.
Nagorno Karabakh had been for almost 30 years invaded by Armenians until September 27, 2020, when the second Karabakh war broke, resulted in the victory of Azerbaijan on November 10, 2020. Azerbaijani people endured another 44 days of Armenian aggression and there had been killed many civilians and Azerbaijani sons fell Martyrs bravely.
We mourn the death of every single Azerbaijani who died as a consequence of Armenian Terrorism.
